Accreditations

Renderplas’ PVCu beading accreditations give you confidence that the product(s) you specify/choose will perform as intended, ensuring your next project will look its best for years to come. Clicking on the various accreditations will provide you with more information on what they are as well as why they are important.

BBA certification

We are proud that our PVCu beads are in the select group of construction products tested and approved by the British Board of Agrément (BBA) and our PVCu movement joints are the only movement joints that the BBA have approved.

The BBA is the UK’s major authority offering approval of construction products, systems and installers. It confirms the exceptional quality and performance of our products.

Agrément certificates are recognised throughout the UK construction industry as an impartial and unbiased assessment of a product’s performance. BBA certification demonstrates construction products’ fitness for purpose, application suitability and whether the product can help achieve regulatory compliance.

The BBA’s approval process examines the product when the certificate is granted through laboratory testing and throughout its lifetime by assessing the installed product performance across various applications. The manufacturing process is also scrutinised to verify continued output quality.

UKCA and CE marking

The UKCA marking, or UK Conformity Assessed marking, substitutes the previous EU requirements for CE marking, although the latter will still be accepted in Northern Ireland.

The UKCA mark is initially closely mirroring the requirements of CE marking but it is likely to change over time, with variations possible. UKCA demonstrates that the eligible product conforms to UK legislation and its essential requirements. In addition, a UK Declaration of Conformity will be required for all manufacturers. This will need to list UK legislation and UK standards for compliance.

Whilst eligible products placed on the UK market from 1st January 2021 must meet UKCA requirements, products may choose to display both UKCA and CE markings. This applies if they comply with EU directives and UK regulations and is likely to be the case if the product is also placed on the EU market. CE only marked products can no longer be imported into the UK after the end of the transitional period.

Most products fall within a transitional arrangement that has now been extended until 1st January 2023, instead of the original final date of 1st January 2022.

Sustainability

Renderplas PVCu beads offers the best environmental credentials in their market.

The ongoing drive to tackle our buildings’ embedded and operational carbon cost is supported by changes in Building Regulations.

Render beading can influence the intended energy efficiency. Renderplas PVCu beads eliminate the cold bridges caused by alternative steel beads, helping to support healthier and more thermally efficient buildings.

Our beads are manufactured locally from recycled materials, keeping the distance covered within the supply chain to a minimum. Our white PVCu beading is made from 100% recycled materials. Across the full range of our colour variations, the recycled material content is 90% to 95%. This is the highest level of recycled material among UK beading manufacturers.

Renderplas has taken the lead in providing Ecopoint calculations for our products to assist the specifier in lowering the carbon footprint of their building. In an independent environmental profile report, Renderplas PVCu beads achieved the top eco-rating available to beading products on the UK construction market with an “excellent” Ecopoint rating of just 0.004 per kg installed.

You can get a copy of the Ecopoint certificate along with any other documents you require from the downloads page.

Material safety

As a responsible company, Renderplas recognises the importance of material safety. This is a core value for us regarding workplace safety and product stewardship. We understand that health, safety and environmental protection are fundamental aspects of every product’s life cycle.

Renderplas beads are manufactured in Britain from unplasticised polyvinyl chloride. This material is not classified as hazardous and rarely presents a danger to human health by inhalation, ingestion or contact with the skin, as outlined in Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH), and Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) controls.

PVCu is generally considered safe to handle during installation. Unlike steel, which is also used for beading, there are no sharp edges. PVCu is generally preferred for external and internal beading in schools and other public buildings. It poses no threat to safety if exposed.

Under our commitment to material safety, and as required by UK REACH, we have produced a Material Safety Sheet for anybody within the supply chain that handles our products. This is available to download along with any other documents you require on the downloads page.

REACH

The EU REACH regulation (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of Chemicals) came into law in the UK on 1st January 2021.

However, as the UK has left the European Union, this is now called UK REACH and applies to chemicals placed on the UK Market. EU REACH will still apply in Northern Ireland. From the 28th October 2021, qualifying substances imported into the UK will require registration with the new UK REACH.

Renderplas PVCu beads are manufactured in the UK using PVCu materials also manufactured in the UK. This makes UK REACH compliance very straightforward and far simpler than imported products from countries such as China, for example.

Raw Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) is benign and non-hazardous if ingested; it does not contaminate water or the environment. To make it impact resistant and flexible, the material is unplasticised by adding a polymer modifier. These are used in minimal quantities in PVCu render beads.

The most commonly used modifier is Bis(2-ethyl-hexyl) phthalate, DEHP. This is on the list of “substances of very high concern” (SVHC) within the UK REACH legislation, and Renderplas does not and will not use this substance.

We must communicate this information to everyone in the supply chain that handles our products, and we therefore provide a safety sheet to everyone that requires it. You can find this and any other documents you may need on our downloads page.
