REACH compliance

The EU REACH regulation (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of Chemicals) came into law in the UK on 1st January 2021.

However, as the UK has left the European Union, this is now called UK REACH and applies to chemicals placed on the UK Market. EU REACH will still apply in Northern Ireland. From the 28th October 2021, qualifying substances imported into the UK will require registration with the new UK REACH.

Renderplas PVCu beads are manufactured in the UK using PVCu materials also manufactured in the UK. This makes UK REACH compliance very straightforward and far simpler than imported products from countries such as China, for example.

Raw Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) is benign and non-hazardous if ingested; it does not contaminate water or the environment. To make it impact resistant and flexible, the material is unplasticised by adding a polymer modifier. These are used in minimal quantities in PVCu render beads.

The most commonly used modifier is Bis(2-ethyl-hexyl) phthalate, DEHP. This is on the list of “substances of very high concern” (SVHC) within the UK REACH legislation, and Renderplas does not and will not use this substance.

We must communicate this information to everyone in the supply chain that handles our products, and we therefore provide a safety sheet to everyone that requires it. You can find this and any other documents you may need on our downloads page.
