UKCA and CE marking

The UKCA marking, or UK Conformity Assessed marking, substitutes the previous EU requirements for CE marking, although the latter will still be accepted in Northern Ireland.

The UKCA mark is initially closely mirroring the requirements of CE marking but it is likely to change over time, with variations possible. UKCA demonstrates that the eligible product conforms to UK legislation and its essential requirements. In addition, a UK Declaration of Conformity will be required for all manufacturers. This will need to list UK legislation and UK standards for compliance.

Whilst eligible products placed on the UK market from 1st January 2021 must meet UKCA requirements, products may choose to display both UKCA and CE markings. This applies if they comply with EU directives and UK regulations and is likely to be the case if the product is also placed on the EU market. CE only marked products can no longer be imported into the UK after the end of the transitional period.

Most products fall within a transitional arrangement that has now been extended until 1st January 2023, instead of the original final date of 1st January 2022.
